one new thought

I will practice to set a  time not to be angry, yell or shout at anyone everyday.

I also should start appreciating everyone on what they are good in doing. For example, Kf, although emotional, is a helpful and direct person.

Review on Christmas :
Gathering with family for lunch. I am glad they liked the brownies! We end up talking about shares and investment too

In the evening, gaming session with the guys. Chew ffk. We played overcooked, hidden in sight and burglar bros. Because chew ffk, he offered to treat us dinner. Thank you Chew!

At night, pack and got ready for my trip to Pg.

what happened today: negativeness

Rejection.

It happened two days ago and today also, though for different situation/issue.

First was a good direct question from a female acquaintance asking me why I still team to her when she tried not to reply me. I realized then she didn't want to talk to me, which I think is a good thing that she shared with me because I wouldn't sense it (but of course it still hurts somewhat). I was somewhat affected by it right after ie my mood. I can understand it may not be my fault but it still take time to digest the emotion and let it out of the body.

Second was from a cousin. We ended up bringing the same item for the party. She stated dessert, I said cake + brownies. Turns out we are both bringing burnt cheesecake. She didn't like that fact. I can understand, and I can also understand her reaction. But isn't my response just as similar as hers.? She called but I did not answer because I don't know what I would say to her. I don't think is a big thing. Really. I think my end, I should ask what dessert is she bringing before hand, but I am sure her reaction wouldn't be this bad if it is a different type of dessert that I am bringing.

Anyway. Rants!

Oh, I have also been bad at controlling my time on fifa. Need to control!

3 grateful things
1) meiyee as a peer for qimen and trading
2) been trading more consistently, and profiting overall
3) I have been sleeping well ie I did not wake up in between, well, not as badly as before. And I tend to wakeup later too

Update on HPH & Weekend

So, I have finished setting up myself for HPH.

I have went with Habitfull and Habitica for tracking my habits/things to do on a day-to-day basis. I would recommend Habitica toANYONE who wants to build up a good habit, or stop a bad habit. Out of all habit building apps, this is the one that comes with full features without having to pay a single cent. You only need to pay if you want a an improved hero (it is a part game too)

I have also installed a pomodoro app to help me study. I tried it on Friday and it works, not efficient enough but at least it works to some extent. Will keep it up.

I am also using an app called AppBlock. My my I think this is the app that is worth paying if you feel you are spending too much time on IG and Youtube.

So I done most of my goals thus far except for reading news yesterday night and exercise this morning (which I still can make it as long as I do it before 12 tonight)

Weekend activities

Imperial 2030 + PR Friday night
HL won Imperial and KS won PR (tied with me on golds and points, won by having a corn!)

Imperial was good I think, but I made the mistake of investing too fast. Should have kept some money instead of keep investing when I had the chance.

PR was a fast game but I should have taken the custom house instead of the statue

I also watched Jumanji this morning. That was good too!

---

Oh yeah, I had a bad flu since Thursday. So I have been consuming the following so far:-

  1. Ginger + Lemon/Apple juice
  2. 100 Plus
  3. Porridge
  4. Vege + Rice
  5. Kimchi
  6. Pomegranate juice
  7. Water, a lot of water
  8. Tea
  9. Honey + yogurt
  10. Cereal + milk
  11. Fish head noodle
  12. Potato chips (BAD i know)
I think I would have been better if I slept a bit more.  I do feel much better now after an 1.5hr nap in the afternoon.

Update on HPH

So I've finished reading High Performance Habit by Brendon Burchard a few days ago and planned to follow his guide on improving my habits to convert into meaningful results.

For the past two days, I have been drawing out goals and sub-goals, both for life and 2020 in the following categories:

  1. Health
  2. Friends
  3. Intimate Relationship
  4. Family
  5. Spirituality
  6. Emotions
  7. Work/Mission
  8. Finance
  9. Hobby
  10. Adventure
I have completed all of it, except for carving out a more detailed plan for my Primary Interest: Trading, and perhaps Bazi/ language too. Will need to do the 5 key moves + Progressing Mastery for these activities (to-do-today)

I also accept that I need to find my "Why" on committing my time into these activities. That will help me stay on course and push myself to work on it harder. I will also complete this within the next few days.

I have downloaded Microsoft To-Do app to see if it can help me to track my daily progress. As is, I have a list of activities to do on a daily basis (which will help me achieve my goals I have written for 2020).

So let's see

I should do a review of my performance on a monthly basis to see how far I have come. I have written where I am now in my goals so that will be good to compare against later on.

Dream 10/12

Minyoung visit me in Malaysia. We go on a road trip with a bunch of kids like a field trip. Then we had a big dinner where we have old smdu friends and family gather together

She was eating with some bunch guys from du whereas I was eating at another table

Then there was a group of guys who wanted me to follow them to go and play paintball at an amusement park. We shot most the guys when later we were arrested, we realized that the area is a government secret agency and an artifact was stolen. We were jailed.

We get to play that round again and narrator suggest to dial #411 for police when the time is right. I rang the police when I saw a bunch of corpses. They came immediately on a helicopter.

I showed them the bodies and then bring them to where they are having the auction. The police overhead the bidder and told him the weapon he is auctioning now, there is only one unit in the world and it belongs to them. The police then made their arrest

I later complain to my friend on how Hl kept blaming me for not finishing his work

Homo Deus

Chapter 1
The book begins by talking abt the change in how we approach famine, plague & war since the early civilisation (it is becoming lesser of a problem as we advance our civilisation with technology & improvements. People are less likely to starve to death than overeating .

Whereas many people died due to plague in the past, the number of deaths have been reducing as we progress forward. From millions (Black Death 1330s) down to tens of thousands (Ebola 2014). Wars is now rarer than ever and most countries will put war as a last option. Countries benefit more from trading with their competitors than waging war with them.

Now with our tech advancements, we are looking to prolong life, or even live on forever. And if this does come true, it may affect our marriage (will "till death do us apart" still applies?), our career (changing career in your 50s may not be deem "too late" anymore)

Right to happiness
How should we measure a successful life/country? By income/GDP or by happiness/GDH?
Should we consume drugs in order to stay happy? What if once we gain our happiness, in order to achieve the similar feelings, we need to strive for the experience again (promotion, falling in love)?

To attain real happiness, humans need to slow down the pursuit of pleasant sensations, not to accelerate it.

Be a better human version, by biological engineering, non-organic & cyborg.
Biological is done by doing the rewiring of the DNA etc, cyborg is attaching a bionic attachment onto a human.

And if everyone in the near future is making biological improvement to their babies, would you? If you do not, then your kid may be left behind in class / work.

Lawns are a sign of your wealth (That is the history of lawns). If you are rich, you can afford to maintain a luscious garden.

I didnt write it after that.. :D
just gonna post this out

Games I tried on Origin

Recently I have received a free one month access to Origin Access, whereby you get to play a selection of games that is parked under the "Vault" for free. So, obviously, I made good use of this perk/benefit to try out some of the games that have been on my wishlist.

#1 Mutant Year Zero
This game is X-com esque but you can only control up to 3 characters. There is also an aspect of sneak/stealth, indicated by your torchlight. I find the graphic design for this game amazing. Although there aren't that many skills available for the characters to enjoy different playstyle, the game is still worth playing. Story line arc is predictable but nevertheless still good.

#2 They Are Billions
Strategy and RPG game where you have different missions so certain games involves controlling a hero to explore a dungeon whereas other missions you are playing real time strategy (but you can pause). This game I particularly was looking to play mainly because it involves zombie and upgrading your tech level concept. It is great to play BUT FREAKING DIFFICULT. There are just too many zombies like it should but too many too enjoy... lol

#3 Into the Breach
I just played this today and finished playing it already. A solid game like FTL where once you finished the game, you just want to have a go at it again to see the different combinations of robots/mechs can lead you to the end. I finished the game twice in -3-5 hours? Decided to uninstall it after because it will be too additive.

Next games to try: Tyranny, Frost Punk, Shadow Tactics

grateful #1 7/12/19

Three things I am grateful about yesterday.

1) Successfully lead a group of accountants to hike up and down Bukit Wawasan. I was also pleased that they enjoyed it and found a few like minded hikers that I hope we will meet and hike again soon!

2) I baked brownies and brought it to Eugene and Hexiang's Maxine's 100day event. Joanne tried it and complimented it by saying "I cannot differentiate this and tricia's brownies." it definitely has to be the highest compliment I received for my brownies.

3) I went and watch movie Knives Out with Grace after that. It was an entertaining movie but l sorting suspected something either the old guy is still alive or the murderer is one of them. Anyway, I brought my newly bought water bottle and almost left it there! I ran back to the cinema and managed to get it back from the cleaners, who dumped it into rubbish bag already.

they upgraded the app

So I think i will try to post more often again!

First stop is to talk about the basketball over the weekend.

We played our inaugural Olympic with friends 2019 game, which was around the world. Obviously I suck in any sports game... So I ended last place. Big surprise for the day was that cm beat Hl to third place. Lol

I went to hike puchong wawasan hill by myself after that to see the time required to go up and down...  I ended spending two hours there. Trying different routes. It was also my first time ending up at the waterfall.

Korea

I will be going home in less than 8hrs.

How do I feel?

Traveling alone gives me a lot of time to think. And wonder. Usually I will have a lot of to do list when I am about to head home. But..... upon reaching home, all these things to be done are left behind.

Emotions. Currently feeling a bit more. Maybe I am overthinking. How I wish things will be different when I go back home, but I know it wouldn't.

To accept that it wouldn't will make me feel better, I think. Or should I strive to push for a change, a breakthrough?

It is not as bad as I am writing, nor as difficult. Everyone, it must people encounters or suffers from it. The comfort or ease of the sense of knowing, the comfort of familiarity.

Alone by myself feels good in the sense that I don't feel pressure. I don't sigh. I just, relaxed. :)

Back to reality. Things to learn, habits to stop, books to read, tasks to solve.

Obsessed

I think I am supposed to write about something else but I cannot remember what was it I wanted to write.

Anyway I have been binging on YouTube videos on Chinese reality shows, mainly those relating to produce 101 china girls.

Kinda interesting to watch certain episodes, and see how they develop themselves and their personal life.

I watched a matching show two weeks back and it was great. Couldn't stop watching it (2 hours per episode). An happy that the two guys I like end up with the girls they were chasing.

Am getting my life back on track, did some running and meditation today. Now need to read for 30-60m and study trading.

Dinner was late,  fish and chips by the sea (only because they told us it was by the sea, couldn't see anything outside the window). The waiter is an English and he supports Liverpool. Told us that he reckons sturridge goal is already a contender for goal of the season.

Brief history of Humankind (spoilers)

Informative and interesting perspective to our humankind history and growth.

I will elaborate on what I think about the book.  The book starts of discussing about the general history of humankind, specifically, the Homo sapiens, how it manage to survive and conquer the other similar Homo species, even though it is not the strongest physically. And humans are so good at hunting that they caused the extinction of some large mammals.

After that, it talks about the revolutions that led us to where we are now. The Cognitive Revolution: where Homo sapiens learn more about the world, communication and writing.

The Agricultural Revolution: where "we" started to settle in a location and learn to grow our own food instead of constantly hunting and moving about, and how our body and mind started to evolve/change due to this. Our diet used to be a variety of food (whatever we can hunt/ gather/ forage) vs now where it is more constant of the same type of food (growing the same rice/ corn year in, year out). And, instead of living free without worry, now we are constantly thinking about the next harvest, whether it will be good or bad. Without the Agricultural Rev, we will not have the size of the population as we have now. The hunting-gathering period requires nimble and small pack of humans, does not cater to big group.

As part of the growth, there is more rules and protection required. Rules to ensure nobody steals and protection from other people invading and stealing the village's food. Here is where the various empires begin to emerge, along with 'imagined order', new languages (mathematics) and taxes.

Human created their own internal hierarchy

The "unification" of humankind was through three factors: monetary, imperialism and religion.

Imperialism, through time, converts locals into believing they are part of the empire. Instead of recognising themselves as their local identify and culture, they adopted the culture and practices of the empire who conquered them (that they very likely hated at the start of colonisation)

Religion also gather people who are outside a community to unite under the same purpose. Religion also includes communism and capitalism.

Scientific Revolution: An evergrowing feedback loop. with resources, you do research whereby new discoveries allow the country to develop powerful weaponry to increase their power. Increased in power to conquer more countries leads to more resources. This is also the period where human start to  develop a questioning mind (compared to earlier when they accept what is taught by their respective religion)

As humans are curious creature, we started to do more exploration and research. Through exploration, they are able to find new lands to conquer. By conquering, it promises them more resources for trading to increase their wealth (capitalism in play), all these are done at the expense of the local native tribes/ empires

Industrial Revolution: access to more energy and manpower than ever before --> leading to parabolic growth in economy (production). Have we actually consider the livelihood of the chickens in the production line? It seems that instead of treating slaves poorly, we are treating the cattles and chickens poorly for our consumption (happiness?). It also talks about consumerism as the new culture/religion - making us buy more and more products in the market (enriching the big companies - ie the new empires)

The book briefly talks about how the world is now more peaceful than before, where based on a percentage count, the death rate through war/crime is higher then compared to the present. I disagree to some extent on this comparison because there are many more people/human now than before, but I think it makes sense as there are less wars these days compared to the medieval times etc.

Happiness - after all that human have achieved, are we really happy? How do we measure our progress? We should be happier than the people who have lived 10,000yrs ago, but are we? We have develop chemical solution to maintain the happiness level (Prozac). But the problem we realised is that happiness is never permanent. Buddhist teach us to contentment, to accept life as is. There is bound to be ups and downs in life, so the solution is we should not chase the ups and accept the downs. We should reduce our pursuit for happiness (extrinsic or intrinsic).

The books end with talking about human acting as life creator and consider its ethics and morality. Although we are now able to use technology to cure many diseases and provide replacement limbs for many people (arms, legs), we are also able to create new life in the lab.  What are the consideration we should take when we are making the decision whether to create a new life/species?

dream

It was a strange dream.  Earlier it was me hanging out for lunch with Ks n SY at a hawker corner lot. Ccw joined us later. I shared the loca...
